How to find sea transport for transporting your cargo on the Moldovatruck website
International trade is constantly growing. Goods move all over the planet. The cheapest mode of transport is water. Actually, when transporting between continents, only aviation, which is the most expensive mode of transport, can serve as an alternative to sea transport. However, even within the same continent, water transport can be a convenient and cost-effective alternative to land-based road and rail transport. The only disadvantage of sea transport is that it is the slowest. However, the low price of transportation and the ability to transport a gigantic volume of cargo offset this drawback.
What and where can be transported by water transport
Water transport in general and maritime transport in particular have a large number of types of cargo ships, both designed for the transport of specific cargoes and universal ones. The following main types of ships intended for the carriage of goods can be distinguished:
Bulk carriers are vessels designed to transport bulk cargo in bulk. Most of the bulk carriers are used for the transportation of specific cargoes and are ore carriers, grain carriers, etc.
- Tankers are vessels for the carriage of liquid cargo. The most famous tankers for the transport of oil and liquefied gas. However, there are ammonia carriers, alcohol carriers and other specialized tankers.
- Refrigerated ships, on such cargo ships they transport goods that require compliance with a special temperature regime in transit. Such vessels, depending on the degree of possible cooling, are divided into three groups. Refrigerated ships with the smallest possible degree of cooling are often called fruit carriers. Refrigerated ships with a maximum degree of cooling are able to maintain the temperature required for deep-frozen goods for a long time.
- Dry cargo ships are vessels designed to carry various cargoes in the hold. In such vessels, in particular, liquid and bulk cargoes can be transported, provided that they are packed in appropriate containers.
- Ferries. The specialization of this type of transport may be different. Ferries differ from ordinary ships in that they go all the time along the same route, usually not far from the coast. There are ferries capable of transporting goods directly inside the cars or railway cars that transported them overland.
- Specialized carrier ships. There can be many options for such vessels: car carriers, timber carriers, etc.
- Container ships. In recent years, the volume of container traffic has been growing rapidly. The reason is that universal ISO containers can be transported by all other modes of transport in addition to water transport: road, rail, air. This allows organizing multimodal transportation. That is, the transportation of goods in one container by different modes of transport. This method of transportation allows you to organize door-to-door delivery and save on reducing the volume of loading and unloading operations. There are ISO containers for the transportation of bulk and liquid (tank containers) cargo, as well as containers and refrigerated tank containers.
Thus, almost any cargo can be sent by water transport. The exception is very quickly perishable goods, for example, fresh flowers, they are transported over long distances by aircraft.
Directly by sea transport, goods can be moved between seaports. The use of river-sea vessels and reloading on river types of ships make it possible to carry out transportation by water transport between river and sea ports. For further movement of goods by land, road and rail transport is used.
